The P&J and the Herald report: “Oil industry leaders and academics will gather in Aberdeen this week to take the first steps towards creating an archive of the UK offshore oil and gas industry.

The men (sic!) behind the project say the aim is to build an information bank to show future generations the enormous impact of oil and gas on the British economy and way of life.” (P&J)

“The first steps will be taken on Wednesday [8 March 2006] when Brian Wilson, former energy minister, chairs a one-day conference at Aberdeen University.” (The Herald)

  2. Its a good start to gather the archive material and the ephemera from the oil industry – but what could be the real “gold” of this collection is in danger of being ignored. Success stories and how wonderful it all was is at best only half of the story – whats hidden under the carpet, best forgotten and kept away from prying eyes will probably not be included.
